Hypopyon in Calotropis toxicity

A 41-year-old man presented with the acute painless loss of vision in the right eye of 5 days duration. The vision in the right eye was 20/200 with diffuse corneal edema, Descemet's membrane folds, hypopyon of 1 mm, and reduced corneal sensation. He gave history of contact with leaves of Calotropis. Although many authors[1],[2] have reported Calotropis endothelial toxicity associated with corneal edema and iridocyclitis due to the acidic nature of the milky sap toxins[3] from the plant, our observation of Hypopyon [Figure 1], adds further insight into the early diagnosis and treatment of such patients without scepticism for the general ophthalmologists. The prognosis of this condition is excellent with topical steroids [Figure 2].
